This is day one of my home built ebb and flow (flood and drain) hydroponics system. I designed it to fit inside of my closet. Sorry for the crappy view, I would try to move around more but my camera isn’t working unless I plug it in while recording.
I started my tomato plants in 1″ rock wool cubes, then transplanted them into Hydroton expanded clay. A water pump (that will eventually be on a timer) floods the tray several times a day. An air pump aerates the nutrient solution to provide the roots oxygen. For a nutrient solution I went with a 3-2-4 synthetic solution.
I am using a 400 watt HPS bulb with an old school analog ballast. The analog ballast is pretty loud, if I had the money I would definitely consider upgrading to a digital one. I am hoping to get some fans in my closet too, I hear that is pretty important.
The N.G.S. System is a new type of hydroponic system that is fully patented and produced in Spain by N.G.S. It represents a new alternative for growing without soil as well as providing an ideal solution for land that is not agriculturally viable.
Hydroponic grow day 17. Using deep water culture system with General Hydroponic Solution. Plants included 4 from seeds and 1 Romulan and 1 Juicy Fruit clone.

Under Current 6XL 13 gallon buckets with 40 inch centers by Current Culture Hydroponics. Some tents, some music, some lights and a timed demonstration of nutrient dilution throughout the under current system using 200ml of House & Garden’s Algen Extract.
It took only three minutes and thirty seconds to fully circulate through over 75 gallons of water. This is large part because unlike conventional hydroponics applications which use centralized positive pressure to deliver nutrients the Under Current utilizes peripheral negative pressure to recirculate a highly oxygenated nutrient solution throughout the system. This perpetual fluid motion supercharges the nutrients with dissolved oxygen creating hyper aerobic conditions perfect for explosive plant growth.
This system is under 2 600 watt radiant 6s powered by Digital ballasts. The room is sealed and supplemented with co2. A Sentinel MDT-1, HPH-4, and CHCC-1 control the atmosphere and power. Water is provided by a carbon and sediment filter plumbed to a float valve in the systems epicenter. The water is cooled by a 1/4hp Oceanic aquarium chiller.
